202 - Music Therapy Intervention to Reduce Caregiver Distress at End of Life: A Feasibility Study

Context Music therapy is frequently provided to patients at the end of life, and studies have shown a benefit in relief symptoms positive impact on quality life (QoL), but little known regarding effect music (MT) caregivers. Caregivers are risk for anxiety, emotional distress experience anticipatory grief as patient nears death. present with may also from MT. Objective To assess MT caregivers hospice determine feasibility research this population. Methods Twenty hospitalized general inpatient care were enrolled. was by board-certified therapist, sessions included pre-MT assessment, 20-45 minutes MT, post-MT assessment. Caregiver stress measured Pearlin Role Overload Measure (ROM), QoL Linear Analogue Self-Assessment (LASA), depression anxiety Patient Health Questionnaire Depression Anxiety (PHQ-4). These three measures taken pre-MT, 6 months post-MT. asked complete Therapy Program Survey Results The intervention completed 15/20 (75%). Of those who did not 2 withdrew prior, 1 available, passed during session, died prior 14 assessments, 9 assessments all 3 timepoints. (post-MT n=14) showed 100% very satisfied would recommend others, 78% found effective relief, 69% relaxation, 71% spiritual support, 86% feeling wellness. Conclusion Research feasible acute majority consenting about half completing surveys post-MT, 6-months (9/20). Future larger should be conducted better
